Here are eight things I did and experienced in 2023 for the very first time. I am grateful for all the opportunities this year afforded me to do and experience things out of my comfort zone. Most of them were fun and adventurous, one was however pretty unfortunate. Wanna see what they are? Keep reading.
As 2023 comes to an end, for today and the next two remaining days, I’d like to share a couple of posts dedicated to what this year has looked like for me. Including new things I have done, lessons I have learned, and the things I accomplished (or didn’t). I believe this is an opportunity for you to know me more and I am sure you will be inspired through what I share. So these are the new things I got up to this year.
I started going to the gym
If you have been around here a while, you know I love everything that has to do with wellness, including taking care of your body.
I have led a pretty active lifestyle for the past eight years, but I always did my workouts at home.
This year however, I joined the gym at my workplace and let’s just say, the gym, gymed and is continuing to gym! I will share more of my experience in a future post and it is definitely a practice I intend to continue with for a lifetime because fitness is a lifestyle. I have a past blog post about what going to the gym consistently has taught me, and please feel free to check it out.
I got THREE new piercings all at once
This year I pierced my ears again and even pierced my nose! I would not recommend getting them on the same day as I did, but I am proud of myself for taking the leap! The piercing part was not painful at all, but the healing process was quite arduous, especially the nose, since the skin there is much thicker. Let’s just say the first week had a lot of pus, blood and maybe a few tears were shed, due to fear of getting an infection. But, I survived and have no regrets!
I went for my FIRST EVER job interview
Now that I am an adult, I am learning that for me to survive, I need money, and to get money, I need work, and to get work, I need to go through certain processes such as interviews to get this work. Well, I went for one for the very first time in my life. I was quite nervous, it went surprisingly well. Though it wasn’t a straightforward journey, eventually your girl secured the position she interviewed for! More on this in the next post, so stay tuned! Me on the way to the interview🙃
I went through pet loss
I am not sure if I shared in the past that I was a cat mom for a little over two years. Unfortunately, my cat, Pepper, passed away suddenly and tragically in January. It was heartbreaking and I felt horrible. I feel like pet loss is just one of those things that if you get it, you get it, if you don’t, you don’t. Pepper was incredible and I will miss her forever. I have come to terms with her loss and I don’t feel as horrible as I did that time. I am grateful for the two years I had with her. It was such an honor to be a nurturer in this way. Keep resting Pepper!
I attended my first wedding as an adult and caught the bouquet
I though we were still babies, but a great friend of mine got married and I had the privilege of being in a attendance AND, I caught the bouquet!! I hope this is a sign that my love life is about to start thriving because wueh! I have not been intentional in this area of my life. However come 2024 and beyond, I plan on doing something about it. Honestly, this will go down as one of the highlights of my life! I don’t think I will ever forget this day! Who knows, maybe I will be writing about my wedding day soon here. Hehe!
I installed artificial locs on my hair
This one’s a but random, but I decided to include it here. I decided to take the artificial locs route because it simply works for me. It took me about 6 hours in the salon to have them installed lol! But, I am enjoying them so far! I did them at Royal Beauty Hub salon, the KTDA plaza branch and total cost was ksh.4300. Ksh.4000 was for installing the locs and ksh.300 was for hot water to make them curly.
I tried a new nail tips shape
Another random and fun new thing I did this year is try a new shape with my nails. I occasionally put nail tips on my nails, you know, for beauty lol. I love the almond and round shapes, but this time I decided to pick the classic square shape. I got so many compliments with this nail shape and I really enjoyed having them. I had them done at Royal Beauty Hub salon, the Accra Trade Centre branch. These were French tips and they cost me Ksh.800.
I did evening and weekend classes
Who knew I would be that girl who works and studies at the same time? Well, here we are. I am currently studying a course known as ACCA. It is an accounting course, kind of like CPA but it is UK based. I chose to do it because it will be recognized internationally. This course is rigorous and needs sacrifice on your part. In this case, I had to sacrifice my Thursday evenings and some of my Saturday mornings to attend class. It was all new to me and at first I was worried about how I would make it work, especially in terms of logistics and cost, but I did it! It was also really fun too! I made new friends and my lecturer was the best! Leaving class on Saturday 💃🏾
That's all for today's post. Stay tuned for tomorrow's as we count down to 2024!
xoxo,
Miss Kambe.
