Simple Morning And Night Skincare Routine For Oily And Acne-Prone Skin

Hey guys and happy new year from me! I am glad to be back after a while, and hope you’ve been well!

Welcome to today’s post, our first of many for 2022! This is just the beginning of the revolution of this blog space, and I will be sharing more content on such topics since this is an area that I am truly passionate about and could talk about for ages! I hope you enjoy this kinda content and learn a thing or two. Let’s jump right in.

I have struggled with acne in the past and get breakouts here and there. My skin also tends to get oilier as the day progresses, and the routines I am about to share have helped to keep my skin in check.

Morning Routine

This is my morning skincare routine;

Step 1: Cleanse

I start by ensuring my hands are clean. Then, with lukewarm water and a gentle foaming cleanser, I use Garnier Even And Matte, I put a pea-size amount in my hands, lather, and apply it on my face with circular motions for about 30-45 seconds, then rinse off.

I pat-dry my face using paper towels.

Step 2: Tone

Next, it’s time to tone. I use the Jossy essentials premium rose water spray. I spray that all over my face.

Step 3: Moisturize

While my face is still a bit damp from the toner, I use dove rich nourishment cream to moisturize my skin.

Step 4: Sunscreen

Then the last and most important step is sunscreen of course!

I use p.o care Aloe moisturizing sun lotion with SPF 30. To apply sunscreen, the recommended amount is three fingers long, i.e your ring, middle, and index finger. I apply that all over my face and we’re good to go for the day! For sunscreen, to keep your skin protected, re-apply every 2 hours (which is a practice I admit have not yet begun). And even if you aren’t leaving the house, apply sunscreen anyways, sunlight can still penetrate through the windows. Your older self with thank you, I promise.

Night Routine

This is when I get a bit more intentional with my skincare routine since I’m going to bed and the products can work better on my skin. Please note, I do not follow all these steps every night, just once or twice a week, especially the exfoliating, mask, and serum.

Step 1: Double cleanse

Double cleansing is a method of cleansing whereby you cleanse your face twice. First with an oil cleanser, then with a foaming cleanser.

The purpose of the oil cleanser is to gently remove the make-up off your face, if you wear make-up. Then, the foaming cleanser is used to remove the rest of the dirt off your face until it’s completely clean.

I don’t wear makeup on most days, and if I do, it’s just eye makeup. So, on those days I use the Ideal Olive Oil from alisons, then follow it up with my Garnier cleanser that I use in the mornings. This time, I use the foaming cleanser for 60 seconds to clean my skin thoroughly.

Step 2: Exfoliate

Exfoliation, is the method of removing dead skin cells from your skin, to reveal a brighter and smoother surface.

There are two types of exfoliation, chemical and physical. I’m not going to go depth with these for now, but currently, to exfoliate, I use Garnier’s PureActive 3-in-1 charcoal mask. This product can serve as a cleanser, exfoliator, and mask, hence the 3-in-1.

I put a small amount in my palms and apply it on my face with circular motions for about 1 minute. It has small grainy particles that complete the exfoliation process. Then rinse off with lukewarm water.

Step 3: Mask

Next, it’s time to mask. Before putting on the mask, I at times like to steam my face, using a facial steamer, then apply the mask, I use the Garnier charcoal mask here as well or The Ordinary's Salicylic Acid Masque. Using a steamer helps to open up my pores, so that the active ingredients in the mask, namely charcoal, and salicylic acid, which are great for oily and acne-prone skin, can get in the pores and be effective.

I put on the mask and stay with it for 15 minutes, then rinse off. I follow this step at least once a week.

Step 4: Serum

This is a new step that I recently started doing. A serum bears many purposes, including brightening the complexion, treating hyperpigmentation, reducing pores, boosting hydration, and fighting early signs of aging. It depends on the serum you use and your specific skin needs.

In this step I use Niacinamide from The Ordinary, it helps with smoothening texture, reduces hyperpigmentation, and minimizes pores, which is just what my skin needs.

I put 2-3 drops in my hands, rub them together then apply it all over my face. I do this 2-3 times a week.

Step 5: Tone then Moisturize

I spray on my toner, the same one that I use in the morning, To moisturize at night, I use oil, which in this case is the Luron Sweet Almond Oil. This oil is the best for my skin type since it’s light while still moisturizing, so my pores don’t get clogged which can lead to further breakouts.

Alright guys, thank you so much for reading this post! I hope you’ve learned a thing or two and would consider trying some of the products and steps I’ve shared in your skincare routine.

Also, I created a reel, doing all the steps practically, so if you want to see that, check out my Instagram here.

To glowy and healthy skin!

I’ll see you in the next one!

Xoxo.
