Cleansing your skin 101

Hello loves!

I hope you’ve been fine and are doing well :)

Today, I’d like to share with you guys some basic tips on skincare, particularly cleansing your skin.

If you’ve been here awhile, YOU KNOW that I love love love skincare and I have a category in my blog, dedicated to beauty, and skincare entails a huge part of it J

So, let’s just jump right into it!

1. Wash your hands

You don’t want to transfer dirt from your hands to your face. We are cleansing right? So step no.1, wash them hands and wash them well okay? ;)

2. Use a gentle cleanser

Use a cleanser that is able to cleanse your skin, while also not stripping the natural oils in your skin and causing dryness, which then makes your skin oilier. Interesting right?

Also, don’t use those bar soaps, they can really damage your skin barrier.

Find a cleanser that’s gentle, one that lathers easily and one that you could characterize as a little goes along way, so that you can save your coins :)

3. Use your hands

One practice of good skincare is being gentle J and this is the fundamental key on what these tips I am sharing with you is built on.

The skin on your face is more delicate than the rest of your body’s skin, therefore it should be treated delicately.

Gently but firmly use your hands to massage and lather the cleanser all over your face.

I used to use tools like the facial massager, facial brush and other extra tools to cleanse my face, but I don’t use them anymore. Your hands are enough. :)

4. Cleanse twice a day for 30-60 seconds, double cleanse especially if you use make-up

30-60 seconds is enough to ensure that all dirt, residual make-up, sunscreen, moisturizer, or anything you apply to your face gets off.

Cleansing your face in the evening, I would say is more important than in the mornings. Why? Well, imagine you’ve put on your toner, moisturizer, sunscreen and make-up (if you do).

Then you’ve gone out, been outside with all the dust, dirt and pollution that’s in the air. Plus your own sweat. Then, imagine coming back home after a busy day of running around and going to bed just like that. Your pores are probably screaming and I feel sorry for your pillowcase lol.

So, please try, as tired as you may be after a long day, to just pour back into yourself and show yourself some love, by doing a little skincare routine. You’ll feel much better, I promise :)

Oh, btw double cleansing means cleansing your skin twice. It’s highly recommended that people who wear makeup should do this. I personally don’t wear foundation, concealer or anything like that so I don’t do this. But the process looks like using a cleansing oil and massaging it all over your face to gently remove the makeup, then following it up with a foaming cleanser for a complete cleansing.

5. Use lukewarm-cold water

This is also built on being gentle with your skin. Lukewarm to cold water is ideal to cleanse your face. Using hot water all the time can strip the moisture and natural oils from your face, which you know does what? Causes your skin to be oilier, caused by overproduction of sebum, which clogs pores, then causes more breakouts.

6. Pat Dry with a clean towel or paper towel

Now after you’ve cleansed your skin, it’s time to dry. There is a process to this too lol.

As you dry your skin, first off use a clean towel and NOT the same towel you use for your body, which should be quite obvious. I personally use paper towels to dry my skin, since with that, I am able to maintain hygiene and cleanliness and I’m not transferring dirt back to my cleansed face.

Then, as you dry, PAT, don’t swipe/wipe. When you pat, it prevents you from dragging your skin thus preventing the onset of wrinkles and lines earlier than they need to appear, thus maintaining a youthful appearance for as long as possible.

From these tips, we can learn that it’s usually the little things that count, that lead to remarkable results. Try including these tips into your skincare routine. You may not see the results immediately, but in the long run, your consistency will pay off.
