As if acne on the face wasn’t enough, there’s also something called chest acne! Here’s how to treat it.
Hello people, I’m back with another blog post. I know it’s been a while. My consistency on this page this year has been quite below par, but I’m hanging on and doing my best to keep sharing.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know I’ve been talking a lot about skin, routines, and more. If not, check out my beauty category. I have covered several topics on skin care. I hope you like them and learn a thing or two.
Anyway, today we are talking about chest acne, or as I call it, chestne. Aside from getting acne on the face, some people, including me btw! Have witnessed getting acne on the chest.
Here’s a short clip of my chest so that you can see what it looks like.
It’s just like you’d see acne on the face. Bumps, texture, and sometimes pimples. As you can see, I had a huge one RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of my chest lol. So, I’m here to tell you that it’s very normal and there are a couple of ways that you can treat it or at least, manage it.
Here they are;
1. Shower regularly
The first thing you’ll want to do is simply maintain proper hygiene. Keep your skin clean by showering regularly, at least twice a day. Especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Wash off all the sweat, dirt, and pollutants away, with a simple bar of bathing soap or shower gel, and a washcloth or sponge. Or one of those shower pouf things that lather so well.
Just like cleansing your face can help keep those breakouts away, so can showering regularly. Hygiene is numero uno (number one).
2. Exfoliate your body
Something else that can help is exfoliating your body. This is quite similar to the way you can exfoliate your face, just this time you can be more thorough. Invest in some exfoliating gloves (I talk about them in this post), and use these all over your body as you shower. You could also get an exfoliating scrub and massage your chest for some seconds, then rinse off.
Exfoliating will help get rid of the dead skin and build-up, which sometimes cause breakouts, to reveal a nice fresh layer of smooth skin.
3. What you do to your face, also do to your chest
Here, I mean the products that you use on your face, also use them on your chest. If you can use them on your face, then they’re probably safe enough to use on your chest. So, the next time you are cleansing, massage some on your chest to cleanse it too. The same goes for your toner, moisturizer, and even sunscreen.
Speaking of sunscreen, ensure you apply some on your chest, especially if you will be wearing a lowish cut top. This will protect your skin and keep it healthy.
4. Do not pick
Keep your hands busy doing something else, except picking on your skin. It’s hard, but resist the temptation to pick at your skin, even on your chest. Picking transfers bacteria from your hands to the skin, making breakouts worse. Also, if you pick at active acne, like pimples and whiteheads, it will leave scars that can take forever to heal and fade.
So, please please please try not to pick at your skin.
5. Wear breathable fabrics, clothes
Something else you can do is ensure that you wear clothes that are not squeezing the life out of you, especially on your chest area. When you wear tight clothes, as you go about your day, sweat and dirt accumulate, and it transfers to your skin thus causing breakouts.
Try to wear well-fitting or even loose-fitting clothes to allow your skin to breathe This will ensure proper air circulation and decrease the chance of sweat and dirt accumulation as well as prevent your pores from clogging.
6. Change your detergent
For some of us, it’s our ‘omo’ or downy that we use to wash our clothes that’s causing the acne. Highly fragrant detergents can cause your skin to be irritated, thus leading to breakouts.
Switch the detergent for something less fragrant, or even unscented. You’ll still smell okay, trust me haha.
7. Wear your hair up as much as you can
Aside from detergents, your hairstyle can also aggravate acne on the chest. Braids that have a lot of texture can do this. Therefore, try to wear your hair up as much as you can. If you have to wear your hair down, then wear a top that covers your chest, so that your braids can lay on that instead of your bare skin. You will still slayyyy and look amazing.
8. Change your hair products
Speaking of hair, even the hair products you use like shampoo, conditioner, or oil can easily get on the chest and irritate. Some oils are heavy and may end up transferring from your hair to your chest thus clogging the pores, and causing breakouts. A well-known culprit is coconut oil.
You may want to switch to products that are less fragrant and even lighter. Also, if you mostly do your hair at home, make sure you thoroughly cleanse your skin afterward. For example, after shampooing and conditioning then rinsing under the shower, clean your skin, just like I shared with you in point one, especially the chest area, to ensure all the hair product that might have settled on your skin after rinsing your hair is cleaned off.
It may take some time and lots of trial and error, to find the product that may be irritating your skin. But once you find the culprit, you can switch to something that is great for your hair and does not irritate your skin.
9. Hydrate
Last, but not least, hydrate. Drink that water girl, it will show on your skin. Including your chest :).
Okay, that’s all for me today. I hope you have enjoyed this post and learned something. I am always here to answer your questions and hear your thoughts. Feel free to like this post, comment, and share it with anyone you think might like this.
