If you've never heard of the term 'romanticizing your life', well, here's your chance to do so. To romanticize your life simply means to find the beauty in the mundane and 'normal' everyday things. This may include looking your best daily, creating space for a self-care or wellness routine, or making space for slow moments in your day. I will elaborate more on these in this post. If you're still interested, keep reading.
1. Clean and organize your space
Gone are the days when being a slob was cool. In this new era, we ensure that our spaces are clean and organized. Studies have shown that clean spaces help to boost concentration and focus. When your space is cluttered, it is difficult to focus and concentrate on the task at hand, because it feels like the pile of clutter is calling out your name like, 'Clean me!', 'Organize me!' But when your space is clean and organized, you can easily concentrate and focus and deliver excellent results. Also, how nice is it to know that you are coming back to a clean home or room after a long day at work or school? The romanticization part is that calming thought of coming back to a clean space.
2. Look your best daily
A life mantra that I live by is that 'you don't need to dress up for an event, because being alive is an event itself.' One of my favorite things to do, when I am in the mood, is going shopping for clothes, especially thrifting! I usually cannot wait to clean the clothes and wear them as soon as I can. Some of us always wait to wear that dress, top or pants for a special event, but I'd encourage you to wear them just because. Every day, make the time to dress up and look nice. Make sure your clothes are cleaned and pressed, brush your hair, wear your favorite jewelry pieces, spray your favorite perfume, etc. If you have a pretty mundane morning routine before work or school, putting in just a little effort in ensuring you look your best, can be a way to romanticize your life.
3. Create a self-care routine
I talk a lot about self-care, and I will talk about it now as well. One of the ways to romanticize your life is by creating a self-care routine. This can look different and unique, according to your preferences. Personally, I have a pretty elaborate self-care routine that I do every Saturday or Sunday night. On these 'self-care nights', I like to thoroughly clean my body, exfoliate my skin, and even put on a mask. A self-care routine for you may entail putting your phone away and reading a book. Such moments may seem small, but they definitely make the mundane moments of life beautiful.
4. Make space for slow moments
Lastly, in this fast-paced world, one of the ways to romanticize your life is to make space for slow, quiet moments. Sometimes you need to just sit. Put your phone and devices away, Get a chair, sit outside, enjoy the sunshine, or just read a book. Such simple and mundane moments can make a huge difference in making life, just a tad bit more blissful.
Life can get tough and overwhelming, which is something we cannot control. However, in the midst of all the hardness and overwhelm, what we can control is choosing to create space for beauty, and these are some of the ways you can do that.
