10 Simple Habits For All-Round Health

Practice these ten habits if you want to be healthy all-round, physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Hello there, and happy new year 2023! This post would be the first one for this year and I am so excited and happy to get back to blogging!

Also, it happens to be my birthday! Happy 20th (for the fourth time) birthday to me! Lol. I’m turning 24 though :). Growing up is weird, but I’m excited about the future.

Anyway, let’s get into today’s post!

1. Manage your time

The first thing to help you stay healthy, make it a regular practice to manage your time. This will help you assign sufficient time to the tasks that you need to do during the day. When you manage your time, you will find yourself getting more done, having less stress, and even having spare time for play and rest, which is as important as work.

Like many of us, I sometimes waste A LOT of time being on my phone and mindlessly scrolling. I then realize how much I have NOT gotten done and end up getting stressed, and we know stress isn’t good for the body.

So, at the beginning of each day or week, manage your time by planning out your day/week. You could use a journal or even the notes app on your phone.

Then, slowly build up the discipline of doing what you set out to do, at a particular time, for that allocated time. It will change your life, I promise.

2. Journal your thoughts

Another great way to stay healthy is by journalling your thoughts.

This simply means to write down or type out your thoughts. When you’re overwhelmed, get your journal and a pen, or whip out your phone and type out what’s going on in your mind.

When you transfer your thoughts from your head to a piece of paper, they won’t seem as overwhelming as they were.

Journalling allows you to express yourself and get those feelings out, instead of them staying inside.

Like me, if you sometimes find it hard to talk about what’s going on in your head, write it down.

3. Work Out

Number three is working out. Working out and having a workout routine, is not just to get your body snatched, although am I complaining when that happens? Nope haha.

Aside from the physical aspect, working out causes your brain to release hormones known as endorphins. These hormones help to relieve pain, reduce stress and increase pleasure. That’s why, after a workout, you feel relaxed and like the world is brighter and everything is better.

If you’ve never had this feeling, then it may be time to give working out a chance.

4. Hang out with people who feel like sunshine

The people you spend your time with can have a significant impact on your overall well-being and health. Don’t punish yourself by hanging out with people who drain the life out of you. This can be hard to do if you can’t avoid them. If this is so, try putting up boundaries in this area.

Like, you can try to avoid personal conversations and reduce them to pleasantries or normal small talk.

If they tend to be discouraging, critical, and pessimistic, try to refrain from revealing something you’re excited about, otherwise, they’ll put on a dampener on your ambitions and dreams.

If a spicy topic comes up that you may have strong opinions about, avoid debating with them, because they have already decided to disagree with you.

I pray that you may find a friend or a group of friends who encourage you, lift you, genuinely support you and make your days brighter.

5. Get enough sleep

I could not emphasize this more. Your body needs rest. Getting enough sleep allows your body and mind to rest, your cells to renew and even your muscles to heal after strenuous activities.

I am more productive when I get enough sleep, instead of spending hours watching something or being on my phone.

It may sound contradictory, but if you want to boost productivity, get enough sleep.

In fact, try having mini power naps during your day. Game-changing.

6. Take social media breaks often and filter the content you expose yourself to

One thing about me is that I like Instagram. I enjoy it quite a lot. It’s been a vital tool in helping me reach out to so many people. It also allows me to see what my friends and acquaintances are up to, and I can keep up with the news.

However, my least favorite place on Instagram is the explore page.

You know, the page with posts from accounts you don’t follow.

When I am not careful, I can spend hours and hours scrolling through and watching all kinds of content and exposing myself to so much.

I realized that social media has caused us to become less discreet and considerate of the things we post, repost or share.

There are many times I saw something that instilled fear, and made me upset, outraged, and even sad.

I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to engage or respond to everything you see on social media.

It is not a must.

Guard your mind, and filter the content that you allow to feed your eyes, ears, and mind. It affects you way more than you think.

7. Read books

I have mentioned my love for books countless times on this platform and I don’t think I will be stopping any time soon!

Cultivate a culture of reading a few pages of a book daily, or every other day and watch yourself grow!

Reading increases your knowledge, improves concentration, and nurtures your creativity, and critical thinking skills.

Also, don’t force yourself to read about things you aren’t interested in.

Start by reading on topics you are interested in, this will make your reading habit stick easily.

8. Treat yourself sometimes

Shower yourself with sprinkles of love sometimes, without feeling guilty.

Whether it’s taking yourself out on a solo date to your fave restaurant, buying yourself a pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing, or even spending some alone time without distractions, I recommend it.

Reward yourself sometimes to fill your cup, so that you can pour into others with more joy and willingness.

9. Have Boundaries

And here, I don’t just mean with others, but with yourself too.

Having a boundary with yourself starts with knowing yourself. And from knowing yourself, you can detect the areas of your life, whereby you need to set boundaries and how strict you need to be with them.

For example, if you get easily affected by what you see on social media, it may be time to take a break, or even leave entirely.

If you tend to spend hours and hours watching series or movies, you may need to find someone to hold you accountable or keep the devices away from your room.

Boundaries are not meant to make you miss out on the fun, they help you have fun, but safely and responsibly.

10. Spend time with the Lord

Lastly, I had to put this one in here.

One of the best ways to take care of you is by allowing the One who created you to do it.

You are immensely loved and valued by God. And out of His love, He desires to spend time with you.

Therefore, carve out time in your schedule to study His Word. Pray by talking to Him just like you would with a friend. Take a walk and enjoy His nature. There are so many creative ways to spend time with God.

Trust me, every time you do it, you won’t leave as the same person.

Alrighty, people, that’s all I have for this post.

I hope it’s inspired, taught, and encouraged you in a way.

I’d like to know which point stood out to you the most. Feel free to share your thoughts with me in the comments below.

Don’t forget to like and share this with a loved one!

Have a blessed time, and I will see you on the next one!

Xoxo,

BK.
